An Opportunity to Help Shape Our City’s Future

  • Establishes criteria for the location of private waste disposal systems

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING COMMITTEE

The Economic Development and Planning Committee will be considering Official Plan policies for:

1. Urban Structure

To create a more compact community of offices, housing, shopping around nodes (eg. Limeridge Mall, the downtowns of Dundas, Stoney Creek, Waterdown, Ancaster and Hamilton) and along corridors (Upper James, King/ Main/ Queenston) which are supported by higher order transit;

2. Cultural Heritage Policies

To protect and enhance our cultural heritage resources (archeology, built heritage and cultural heritage landscapes);

3. Employment Land Use Designations

To protect and support our employment (industrial) areas; and,

4. Private Waste Disposal Systems (thermal treatment, waste processing, transfer and disposal, hazardous waste)

To establish compatibility and locational criteria, the necessary studies and the associated zoning for private waste disposal facilities.

WHERE: Hamilton Convention Centre

1 Summers Lane, Hamilton

WHAT: Over the next several months different events will be held to discuss future land use planning directions to guide physical change and growth. In Spring 2009, the City will adopt a new urban Official Plan which will shape the City’s future until 2031. A new comprehensive Zoning By-law will also be completed to implement the new Official Plan.

HOW: Any requests to speak at Economic Development and Planning Meeting must be submitted in writing and detail the issue that you wish to address.
