City and JPC launch “Mayor’s Luncheon Speaker Series”

HAMILTON, ON

Mayor Fred Eisenberger, on behalf of the “Partners for Prosperity” (Hamilton City Council, the City of Hamilton’s Economic Development and Real Estate Division and the Jobs Prosperity Collaborative (JPC)), announces the launch of the "Mayor's Luncheon Speaker Series”. This series will present high profile speakers and business champions not only from the local community, but those across Canada and the United States who will provide insightful information aimed at improving the business climate in Hamilton.

“These luncheons are designed as unique business networking opportunities to celebrate our successes and increase the dialogue amongst our community leaders from a variety of sectors on how to move our economy forward together,” says Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

The luncheons will take place four times a year, rotating throughout the Greater Hamilton Area. The first luncheon event will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Liuna Station (360 James Street North) from 11:30am - 1:30pm featuring keynote speaker, Dr. Jennifer Jackman, Director General, CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory.

Operating within the Minerals and Metals Sector of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory (CANMET-MTL) is the largest research centre in Canada dedicated to metals and materials fabrication, processing and evaluation. CANMET will be relocating from Ottawa to the McMaster Innovation Park on Longwood Road beginning this year; a key component in Hamilton’s emerging research and development economic sector. Dr. Jackman will be speaking on why CANMET is investing over $60 million dollars in Hamilton with a workforce of more than 100 scientists and technicians.

“The Mayor’s Luncheon Speaker Series promotes and celebrates business and community leadership for creating Partners for Prosperity", said Chair of the Jobs Prosperity Collaborative Mark Chamberlain.

Proceeds from the Mayor’s Luncheon Speaker Series will benefit Hamilton’s Jobs Prosperity Collaborative and the Hamilton Roundtable on Poverty Reduction. Other key luncheon dates are May 28th, September 17th and November 19th, with more information to follow over the next several weeks.
