Torch Rally to pass through Hamilton
December 15, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hamilton, (Ontario)– Hamiltonians are encouraged to demonstrate their Olympic spirit by supporting the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay as it makes its way through the city on December 19 and 20, 2009.

At 6:30pm on Saturday, December 19th, the torch begins its passage along Main Street West from Dundurn Street, then heads north on Bay Street and west on Cannon and along York Blvd.; arriving at Dundurn Castle at 7:00pm.

On Sunday, December 20 at 7:25am, the torch lights up again to depart Hamilton along Main Street/Queenston Road/Highway 8 from City Hall, and is expected to reach Fifty Road by 10:00am.

The crowd will see a new torchbearer carry the flame every 300 metres through the community as it travels on its 45,000-kilometre-long journey across Canada — the longest domestic torch relay in Olympic history. Temporary rolling road closures will ensure the safety of the torchbearers and spectators lining the relay route. Attached are the torch relay route maps providing arrival times at various points along the way.

The public are also invited to attend the community celebration at Dundurn National Historic Site on Saturday, December 19.

Event Summary:

12:00 pm-6:00 pm – Free tours of Dundurn Castle
