City of Hamilton says “Lights Out” in support of Earth Hour campaign
HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is confirming its support once again for Earth Hour, a global campaign that began in 2008 in Sydney, Australia to take action against climate change. The campaign promotes the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27th to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.
The City will lead by example and will turn off all unnecessary lighting in corporate facilities. Traffic signals and street lighting will remain operational for safety reasons. “Earth Hour is about so much more than simply turning off your lights for one hour,” said Mayor Fred Eisenberger. It’s about raising global awareness about the small steps we can all take each and every day to reduce our ecological footprint and make a big difference.
We hope organizations and individuals in Hamilton will take action – not just on March 27th, but everyday – to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable community.” For more information on Earth Hour, please visit www.earthhour.org
