City to host Community Engagement Sessions May 11th and 12th
May 07, 2010
Hamilton – The City of Hamilton’s Pan Am staff team will continue to host community engagement sessions to share ideas and address the concerns of key stakeholders and the public. Next week, the Pan Am team will be hosting two consultation sessions at Sackville Seniors Centre with invitations issued to local sport organizations and sport stakeholders to participate.
On Tuesday, May 11 (7:00 pm), discussions will focus on the planned velodrome with consultations on the stadium to be held Wednesday, May 12 (7:00 pm).
“The Pan Am Games opportunity is a game-changer for the people of Hamilton,” said Mayor Fred Eisenberger. “We want to ensure that Hamiltonians continue to have a voice in this process and by working together we will build the kind of facilities that benefit all Hamiltonians today and into the future.”
The City’s $60 million investment in the 2015 Pan Am Games will leverage between $150 million and $200 million in new sport and recreation facilities in Hamilton including a new multi-purpose stadium, warm-up track, velodrome and 50-metre pool.
A velodrome consultation for cycling stakeholders will be held the week of May 17th, with additional community consultation sessions planned for the weeks of May 17th and 24th.
In addition, Mayor Eisenberger will be hosting a broader community engagement session within the next couple of weeks and will include the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats and other public and private sector stakeholders. This consultation will focus mainly on the Pan Am stadium and will give participants an opportunity to share ideas and concerns. The panel will also review the benefits of the West Harbour site and the long-term benefits of revitalizing the downtown-waterfront precinct.
