Local athletes competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics
August 11, 2008

The 2008 Olympic Games are now underway in Beijing China. The Canadian Olympic Team consists of 332 competing athletes and is led by flag bearer Adam van Koeverden, Olympic and world champion kayaker.

Hamilton is well represented at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Congratulations to the following athletes, coaches and guides representing the Greater Hamilton Area in Beijing:

Olympics
• Colin Jenkins is competing in the triathalon
• Joshua McGuire is competing in fencing
• Nicolas Youngblud is competing in water polo    
• Melissa Tancredi is competing with the Canadian Womens National Soccer team  
• David Mair is the coach for freestyle wrestling

Paralympic Games
• Laura Comeau is a rowing guide
• Tom Thomson is the judo head coach
• Greg Dailey is the guide for competitor Jason Dunkerley
• Chelsey Gotell is competing in swimming events
